Good morning! Thursdays are always fun days here...my daughter has dance class and it is so fun watching her have so much fun. Thank you to all of you that made yesterday's stocking on congfu such a success! I really appreciate it so much and I will be working on getting everything shipped out today!

The week of February 14th I will be taking part in a hope for Haiti fundraiser on HC...keep an eye out for a lot of wonderful auctions from some HC wahms that will be donated for a great cause.

I am donating a custom longies spot. Anything goes....and it will be my first official new custom slot of 2010. Starting in late February and early March watch out for info regarding custom slots! I am wrapping up my old list finally and have decided to list so many spots a month on my HC or Congfu. Some will be BIN, some will be lotto to buy, some will be for anyone and some will be for new customers only. Details are coming soon!

HandmadeByMama will be launching a new site in 2010 as well. My awesome friend Kim is working on the final touches now, but it will be a great place to see upcoming stocking info, see your works in progress, check out action shots of cuties in HMBM gear and to find inspiration for your next HMBM one of a kind creation!

I will also be starting to offer some of my charts and a duplicate stitch tutorial on my HC. This has been a long time in testing and I hope something all you knitters out the will enjoy!

Easy Legwarmers Pattern - The Anna Legwarmers

My girly girl loves ballet and in the winter her legs are chilly going to and coming home from her lessons. And besides that, I just wanted to make her some cute legwarmers. I found that there are not a lot of worsted weight easy patterns out there. This pattern is very straight-forward and easy to do. And because you use worsted weight yarn, they knit up very quickly.

The Anna Legwarmers

Materials ~ 1 skein worsted weight yarn (apprx 220 yards). I used Cascade Superwash 220. A pair of US6 12" circulars (or US6 dpns).

Sizing ~ the cast on number will fit apprx. ages 4-8 (I am working on expanding the pattern for toddlers)

Using a long-tail cast on, c/o 40 stitches and join in the round, being careful not to twist your stitches.

Knit in 1X1 ribbing (K1, P1) for 14 rows.

Knit in stockinette stitch (K all stitches) for desired length of legwarmer (I did 13" and they work great and even have a little room to grow).

Knit in 1X1 ribbing (K1, P1) for 14 rows.

Cast off. Weave in ends.

So simple and the ribbing is nice and tight but very stretchy so they do not slip down. You can do as I did and add some duplicate stitching, do the entire longies in your favorite ballerina's favorite color, or even do some great stripes.

Hope you have fun knitting these up! And as always, I do not mind at all if you wish to knit these for profit, but please give me credit for the pattern by posting the following on your listing.....

It is that time of year again. I always underestimate how busy we will be during the holidays. I am scrambling to get my gifts done and finish up the customs I am working on now. I am finding myself frantic trying to get everything accomplished. So I have decided that I am going to take a break until January.

I am finishing up with my current custom.....and working on a couple pairs of longies with issues :) After that, I will be on vacation.

My family deserves to have a great holiday and having their mama frantic and stressed out is not making for a Merry Christmas.

American Girl Doll Little Miss Hat

My daughter is six and loves her American Girl Doll. She named her doll Delilah and due to my youngest inability to say her entire name, we have dubbed her as LaLa. I am making Anna a Little Miss version of the Holly Hat hat for the winter and it will match LaLa's. It only took about 30 minutes to whip up this doll sized hat.

Knitted for a sweet friend :) Love Katy!!!! Pinafores don't have to be knitted with handspun yarn. This is Licorice Twist and was so easy to knit up and so gorgeous and light-weight. I knitted a matching Little Miss version of the Holly Hat!!

This pattern has been living in my head for quite a while now and I thought I would get it down in writing for all to share. The great thing about this pattern is that you can make a bunch of different hats with the same pattern (with just a few tweaks) and the same size needles.

Sizes
NB(Baby, Toddler, Child, Adult)

Yarn
Any worsted weight yarn anywhere from 1oz to 4oz

Needles
Size US9 16" circs (5.5mm)
One set of US9 dpns (5.5mm)

Notions
Tapestry needle, stitch marker, scissors

Hat pattern:

Using circular needle, cast on 48(56, 64, 72, 80) stitches. Join to work in the round, do not twist your stitches and place your stitch marker here.

For a rolled brim hat, work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) for 4 1/2(5", 6", 7", 8") from cast on row with the edge unrolled. See Rolled Brim Hat below (with Sprite Like Versions' decreases).

For a seed stitch brim hat, work seed stitch (knit the purls and purl the knits) for 1 1/2"(2", 2", 2", 2 1/2") from cast on row. Now work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until your piece measures 4 1/2(5", 6", 7", 8"). See Seed Stitch Brim Hat below (with earflaps and braids)

For a garter stitch brim hat, work garter stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 1 1/2"(2", 2", 2", 2 1/2") from cast on row. Now work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until your piece measures 4 1/2"(5", 6", 7", 8"). See Garter Stitch Hat below (with earflaps and braids).

Single rib brim hat, work single rib stitch (K, P, K, P repeated) for 1 1/2"(2", 2", 2", 2 1/2") from cast on row. If you wish to fold over your brim for your hat, just double your brim to 3"(4", 4", 4", 5"). Now work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until your piece measures 4 1/2(5", 6", 7", 8")

For Double rib brim hat, work double rib stitch (K, K, P, P repeated) for 1 1/2"(2", 2", 2", 2 1/2") from cast on row. If you wish to fold over your brim for your hat, just double your brim to 3"(4", 4", 4", 5"). Now work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until your piece measures 4 1/2(5", 6", 7", 8"). See Double Rib Brim Hat below.

For the Little Miss version you will start a little different. Cast on 56(64, 72, 80, 88)...which is 8 extra stitches for each size. Work in garter stitch knitting flat (alternating knit and purl) for 1/2"(2", 2", 2, 2 1/2"). On the next round bind off 8 stitches and join for knitting in the round. Now work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch, every row) until your piece measures 4 1/2"(5", 6", 7", 8"). After you complete the decrease rounds attach the flap to the hat and sew on a button through both layers. See Little Miss version below.

Now work your decreases rounds. You will need to switch to your dpns when the piece is too tight on your circs.

Round 1: K6, k2tog; repeat to end
Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit
Round 3: K5, k2tog; repeat to end
Round 5: K4, k2tog; repeat to end
Round 7: K3, k2tog: repeat to end
Round 9: K2, k2tog; repeat to end
Round 11: K1, k2tog; repeat to end

Break your yarn leaving a tail and using your tapestry needle, thread the tail through the remaining stitches and remove them from the needles. Pull these stitches tight and poke the tail to the inside of the hat and tie it off securely and weave in your ends.

If you would like to make the sprite-like version of this hat, follow the pattern for the roll brim hat and then work your decreases like this:

First Decrease Row: K6, k2tog; repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Second Decrease Row: K5, k2tog; repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Third Decrease Row: K4, k2tog; repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Fourth Decrease Row: K3, k2tog: repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Fifth Decrease Row: K2, k2tog; repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Sixth Decrease Row: K1, k2tog; repeat to end
Knit 8 rows.
Seventh Decrease Row: K2tog; repeat to end

Continue Decrease rounds of K2tog til you have 3 or 4 stitches remaining. Work icord for desired length, bind off.

You can put all kinds of fabulous things at the ends of your hat. A tassel, a ball, a leaf, a heart. There are lots of fun patterns out there to try :)

Want earflaps on your hat for those cold winter days? Easy.

I like to use the seed stitch version of the hat for the brim (but the garter stitch brim works great as well). Find the middle/back of your hat. From the middle, count forward 6(8, 8, 10, 10) stitches. With your dpns, pick up in seed stitch (Knit the purls, purl the knits) 10(12, 12, 14, 18) stitches. Turn and work seed stitch across 6(6, 6, 8, 8) rows. Turn your work and seed stitch across to the last two stitches, k2tog. Continue the last row until you have 3 sts.

Now you can work a 3 stitch i-cord for your ties.

Bind off and have no ties, just earflaps.

Bind off and cut long strips of coordinating yarn. I like to hold three strands together and have three sections. Send each 3 strand section through the bound off stitches on the bottom of the earflap. Double them up, giving you (3) 6 strand sections and braid them together. Tie off tightly at the bottom of braid.

I also like to take a contrasting color and do a simple single crochet row around the bottom of hat and earflaps....just gives it a great finishing touch.

I have worked this hat a ton of times, but have not worked every hat in every size, every pattern. I would love for you to post your pics of your finished objects here and of course, if there is a mistake, please let me know :)

I love this vest pattern Imagine Peace Vest. I of course left out the color work and worked the front just like the back. Then used duplicate stitch for Foofa.

I used Cascade 220 in Light Pink, Dark Pink and Yellow. With great girly touches, such as the Juliette ruffles, ribbons and embroidered flowers.

What a treat! Knitting with Mosaic Moon wool is always lovely....and this colorway, on Cestari Super Fine was absolutely wonderful! And we just pulled it off that the little guy received them the Friday before July 4th....how perfect is that?

Duplicate Stitch

Obviously, I am a fan. :)

I love to whip out my coloring crayons and some graph paper and layout a chart. To me, duplicate stitch is just like cross stitching I used to do with my mom. It is the easiest way to jazz up a pair of longies.

I have been told that I do my duplicate stitch backwards...but I do it that way to avoid the "smooshing" of the pic that occurs when I duplicate stitch on the V's.

Here is how I do it.....and of course, from time to time I do 1/2 stitches and V's to make the picture look perfect :)

To follow a HMBM chart, each square corresponds with a ^ in your knitted object.

Cover each with the color specified on the chart, or feel free to substitute your own color scheme.

My full proof way of duplicate stitch:

Come up at the top of the stitch (the stitch is a ^ shape)....

Go under both legs of the stitch below it......

And then go back down into the top of the stitch........

When you are done you will have covered the stitch with a new color and it will look like this....

You cover each stitch with the appropriate color and it makes a picture!! The options are limitless....enjoy!!!!

I have been wanting to do a give-away for a while. It has just been a crazy life lately. My 13 year old is a baseball fanatic and we have been living at the baseball diamonds. Which is where most of your projects are being knit these days too :)

An old friend asked me to knit up a newborn hat for a photo shoot for her new photography business the other day. It was so much fun, that I thought I would knit up another and do a give-away.

The hat is NB sizing. Perfect for your new blessing or a perfect gift for a friend or loved one who will be welcoming a new blessing soon.

The hat is knitted in the perfectly gender neutral colors of green and cream of Cascade 220 wool. Cute sprite-like design with an i-cord top and 3 dimensional leaf on the end. Of course, only hand wash and lay flat to dry, as wool will felt easily.

This was a great pattern. For all my knitting friends, it is here. I used Cascade Cotton for the top in Plum and off-white and picked out some coordinating fabric for a skirt. She of course, loves it :)

Summer Love Set

This set was so fun to knit. The top is knitted with my pattern and using Sugar Bubbie Organic Cotton in MacKensie's Rainbow. The capris feature a heart shaped cargo pocket and small floating hearts in all the colors of MacKensie's Rainbow. And the trim is a lace detail, so sweet and girly.

Swing top with knotted shoulder detail....makes the straps adjustable for a perfect fit....

Piggy Set

I recently wrote a pattern for a super simple swing top in worsted cotton. It was really fun to write and I am working on getting it all written up. My favorite thing about it is that it is a really quick knit and the shoulders are knotted so you can adjust them super easy.

Here is a recent set I completed using this pattern. The top is all Organic Cotton and the capris are Cascade 220 and have a lace detail trim and embellished hearts and puffy hearts for the drawstrings.

Bicycle Set Collab

Did a collab with my friend Jenn of Buttercup Mama ... she sewed up a swing top in the cute vintage bicycle fabric.....and I did these.....

Summer Sun Scrappy Capris

These were so much fun......I absolutely love doing scrappies. You never know what you are going to get :)

Most of these scrappies are Cestari Super Fine, with some BFL thrown in for good measure. I tried to stick with yellows, oranges and greens for a summer time feel. Trimmed out in Spring Green and a ruffly cuff, these are the perfect summer capris.

Some (but not all) of the colorways included are: Atticus by Laines Magnifiques, Retro Metro by Laines Magnifiques, Florida and some Yarnoodles scraps I purchased from her Hyena Cart.

Little Boy's Love Pockets

Planning this custom was so much fun!!! The mama sent me some Peace Fleece (great cause, check them out)....and we cooked up the idea for some pockets. Little boys love putting their treasures in their pockets and little boys love frogs and snails......so here is our creation!!

Last week on Congfu I auctioned a custom pair of Darkside shorties......the mama that won was so fun to work with and I loved every second of it!!!! We used Cascade 220 and she chose small rainbow stripes for the legs and a rainbow drawstring.....can't wait to see action shots of these!!!

knit up a cute hat of course. My polling site only had three machines and the lines were 2 1/2 hours long. I cast on the hat when I got in line and finished right before I voted. Everyone around me was cracking up that I knitted an entire piece of clothing in line that day!
